Fort Worth, TX native and founding member of Guitar Fort Worth, Dr. Will Douglas has become a leader in the north Texas guitar community. Starting his career under the apprenticeship of Michael Dailey along with Professor Tom Johnson of The University of North Texas and privately with Adam Holzman of The University of Texas. Will has also performed for some of the top names in guitar including; Tom Sheeley, Virginia Luque, Thomas Kirchhoff, Dale Kavanagh, Johannes Moller, Eduado Fernandez, Eliot Fisk, Bruce Holzman and Oscar Ghiglia among many others. He made his concert debut in Guitar Fort Worth’s Atrium Series in 2004 and attended the 2006 Acadia Guitar Festival in Nova Scotia, Canada and the 2008 and 2009 Iserlohn International Guitar Symposiums in Iserlohn, Germany. Will has also given solo baroque guitar and lute performances and played continuo in The University of North Texas’ Collegium Musicum Orchestra, the Fort Worth Opera and many others.
In December of 2008, Will took the presidential reins of Guitar Fort Worth to help provide performances and educational opportunities to the Fort Worth community. In 2011 Will was invited as a guest lecturer and master class teacher at the 2011 Hamilton International Guitar Festival and The Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Will Douglas finished his Masters in Music Performance degree at UNT and has since returned from the Graduate Diploma program in Eliot Fisk's studio at The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston to seek his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at the University of North Texas, which he completed in 2019.
In 2015, he founded the Lone Star Guitar Festival and Competition at Weatherford College, which draws performers, competitors and enthusiasts from all over the world and in 2017 the Collegiate Peaks Guitar Retreat in Buena Vista, Colorado. In August of 2019, Will took on the role of Managing Director of the Fort Worth Classic Guitar Society, one the the most prominent guitar organizations in the United States.
Will is currently Artist in Residence and Director of Guitar Performance and Pedagogy at Texas Baptist College at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, an Adjunct Instructor of Guitar at Texas Wesleyan University, Weatherford College, Tarrant County College Northwest, and the owner, instructor, and performer at The Guitar Studio in Fort Worth, TX.
